Running on highways
Tumbling through open plains
I’m trying to find the hiding links
The secrets fallen down the sink
Seeing the bright lights
Cold and color overload
The blurry faces move above
Oh god, I hope they’ve got some love
For me
Or who I’ll be
Walking a wire weave
Signals fill the open air
They’re trying to find a hiding place
The solace in an empty space
Running through hallways
Fumbling the trapdoor keys
I’m peering through the floorboard cracks
And someday soon I’ll crawl right back
To see
Who I’ll be
And while the time is winding down
The world is waiting to be found
It seems the answer should be bright as day
But all the while they hold their ground
They’re reaching out to touch the sound
That calls them on to find a way
Steering through snowstorms
Peering up to find the eye
And fearing what we do not know
That leaves its trace in trails of snow
Running on railways
Wandering the winding lines
We’re waking slow and running late
Oh god, that train’s not gonna wait
For me
Oh who’ll I be?

Kingdoms
05:08
|
|||
Emperor, oh emperor
Where have you gone?
And when did you become a secret to me?
I hear you as you sing in tune
With some distant song
I try to sing but you can see right through me
As kingdoms come undone
Emperor, oh emperor
What have we done?
We’re lost in ways we never thought we would be
I think that this is what she meant
When she said “crash and burn”
But we could never see the future, could we?
And I can finally see
The castles made of sand
And I sit and watch them wash away
We’ll rule each other’s kingdoms
For a while
Share our songs and sing them
For a year
Now through the glass I watch you
In denial
I am falling down
Are you coming ‘round?
And maybe when that strife was through
At last it did come
If only I were waiting for epiphanies
But emperor, oh emperor
We’re already gone
And flying far away from that sad city
Are you coming ‘round?
You’re not coming ‘round

Corner Of My Eye
05:43
|

In the corner of my eye
You are swimming in the deep
And I find things to distract me
From my urge to fall asleep
And you’re climbing towards the diving board
Well this can only end one way
And in the corner of my eye
You are carrying routines
And I’m sitting here unmoving
Hoping you don’t make a scene
As you try to make your dream to wake
Well you remind me of myself
‘Cause in the corner of your eye
I am shrinking to a speck
And I feel my stomach drop
Every time you turn your neck
And I wonder how we fell so far
From things I know I heard you say
But now my anticipation
Turns to lack of appetite
And in the corner of your eye
I am just a paler white
And I don’t know where the hell we are
I guess you like it best that way
In the corner of this room
Is a piano old and worn
We don’t play our favorite songs
For they sound oh so forlorn
And all the things we thought were here to stay
Now are falling through the cracks
And in the minds of you and me
Are only thoughts of what we lack
But maybe all is for the best
And all I do is hold you back

Daylight Songs
09:16
|
|||
One hundred pairs of calloused feet
Tonight shall walk this lighted street
And all around the mountains sleep
As we begin to wake
They’ve all come to retie their nets
Relearn the things that they forget
They’ve made their way through courses set
To secret hideaways
The fire grows from spirit sparks
As ‘round we circle in the dark
And songs are growing from our hearts
As time is growing near
And eyes are wet and hugs are long
For knowledge that we’ll soon be gone
But we’ll not forget these daylight songs
That guide us back to here

In another town
Will the blurry faces ask you if you’re feeling down?
As you move towards the city square without a sound
As you try to find your grand designs you look around
Oh but all your schemes, my friend, it seems they’ve disappeared
And so you’re waiting here
Wondering about the others
And in the theater shows
How lonely do you feel among the numbered rows?
All these shifting floors and hidden doors they call below
Do they hold the rooms you knew so many years ago?
When it seemed the world you loved had been replaced
Find it anyplace
Find it anyplace
When you finally reach out from the back
I’ll sew up all your wholes and halves
And I’ll follow all your charts and graphs
In my soul, yes, I want you to laugh
Did it change again?
Did your shapes within the shifting rearrange again?
Well you dry your tears and hide your fears but now and then
You just give in and hold your knees against your head
And all the light upon you seems to pass right through
But if you only knew
That you could hear your favorite colors
And through another door
Through the ivy covered mazes past the corner stores
Well I know you don’t believe that you’ve been here before
Surrounded by uncharted lives you seem so sure
That all the things you loved have been replaced
Find it anyplace
And have you seen the river?
I can take you there tonight
If you'd like to smile
Would you like to smile?
Follow down the lighted street
And slip between the gates
It's just another mile
And all the while you wait for your embrace
Waiting for your place
While we wait for memories to come back
I'll sew up all your wholes and halves
And I'll follow to the moon and back
In my soul, yes, I want you to laugh

Dawn
04:31
|
|||
Wrap me up in blankets you have loved
You and I are floating
To a world we’re dreaming of
The air is soft and still
The feeling does not fade
And there is time for all the plans we’ve made
Seek me in a dream and when you wake
Meet me on the mountain as dawn it breaks
Tell me all the thoughts you invent
Sing me all your songs
If you find the time well spent
The night is fading fast
We are the lingering stars
And I can see just how real you are
Seek me in a dream and when you wake
Meet me on the mountain as dawn it breaks
